Juniors 7-12 years
Give your child every chance to thrive
To keep your child learning, Juniors classes are 40 minutes long and our instructors are specifically trained to teach this age group.
The junior programme is designed to give your child everything they need to thrive in life from physical fitness and confidence through to improved school work and respect for others.

The Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Junior Programme works hand in hand with your child’s schoolwork, providing improved self-discipline, self-confidence, concentration, mental alertness, co-operation, goal setting advice and anti-bully skills. Our instructors work with your child to make sure they are achieving in the classroom at well as the martial arts class.

An important point to note is that your child is taught that the physical side of what we teach them should only ever be used in self-defence. We constantly remind them that their martial arts skills should never be used for unwarranted aggression.

Safeguarding is our number one priority and every instructor is Enhanced-DBS verified.
helping children develop with our Lifeskills Programme
We firmly believe that the key to success with developing young people is to help them continually achieve in a positive environment.

That's why we created our Lifeskills Programme!

It is a systematic approach to teaching children the essential life skills they will need to thrive.

It is a product of extensive research into self-defence strategies, psychology, early childhood education, neuro linguistic programming, neuro associative conditioning, positive motivation and years of experience teaching martial arts to children.

There are 2 components to the programme which are used to drive the lesson plans and are tailored to each child.

Character Training : encompassing the concepts of Good Attitude, Good Manners, Good Self Control, and Good Habits
School Safe / Street Safe : the ABCs of Conflict Avoidance, Stranger Alert, The 5 Rules of Personal Safety, Trust Your Intuition

The programme looks to actively include a child's parents and school teachers through using Personal Goal sheets which the student's must complete before they can be considered for a colour belt grading.
encouraging achievement through colour belt grading
Confidence, self-esteem, and situational awareness are created by a having sense of achievement.

We know this! And we use a colour belt grading system to recognise our students' effort.

On a regular basis, those students who have demonstrated the correct attitude and technical competency are invited to attend a one hour grading session to try and get their next colour belt.

Grading sessions take place at the weekend and are always divided into age appropriate groups so no-one has the potential to fail!
teaching your child to defend themself
Being able to spot potential conflict and having the confidence to defuse it is something every child should be able to do.

Knowing the theory is one thing.

Having the confidence to use it is another!

That's why we offer students the opportunity to practice self-defence techniques in a completely safe and controlled way.

When a child has developed the physical capacity and mental maturity, we invite them to have the option of working in Sparring pairs to put into practice their learning.

Each child in a Sparring pair is clothed in full head-to-toe protective gear and is taught how to control their movements whilst striking the opponent and blocking their strikes.
